Hawaiis Charter Fishing While On Vacation
By: Issac Soren

The pristine waters off Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oahu are some of the most sought after destinations for fishers all around the world.

About 88,000 visitors a year come out to try a hand at hawaii's charter fishing while on vacation. Each day that they stay in Hawaii they spend a good amount of money for fishing, lodging and equiptment fees which is all good and dandy for the charter companys and economy but the biggest reward is the experience these visitors enjoy.

Tours can be of all types, big game charters for major billfish tournaments, small boat chartering for leisure and sightseeing. Robert Fitzgelard runs an Ocean Fishing Tour business out of the Haleiwa boat harbor and said that his approach to charter fishing is unique and like no other.

"Most people who arent hard core into big game don?t want to spend $500 nor be six hours out at sea", said Fitzgerald.

"We offer a 2 1/2 hr family fun tour on our 30 ft vessel and our focus is on catching smaller inside reef fish, not the deep water fish because we only go about 2 miles out".

Ocean fishing and tours helps the visitor get off the island and on a boat for fun rather then sport. The price is cheap ($60 per person) the tour short and enjoyable.

Mason Hairtston, a recent vactioner to hawaii and customer on the Nani Kai, Roberts boat, said that he never imagined that he would have been touring on a private boat before he planned his vacation.

"It all happened on a whim, I was surfing the internet the day before coming out to hawaii and came across www.northshore.com which fetaured Ocean Fishing, I quickly jotted down the number and when I was out here I gave them a call, the next thing you know Im 2 miles out to sea catching small fish and seeing the island of oahu from a boat".

Over 20 different species of fish can be caught when out on the Nani Kai including tuna, mahi mahi (dorado), ono (wahoo) bottom fish and many species of shark.
